Coffee has the opposite affect on me: it makes me sleepy. I know, I’m a freak, right? When I came across this blog post about Buzz Strong’s Caffeinated Cookies, I was curious to try them, but I am afraid I wouldn’t be able to give an accurate review of them just because coffee straight out of the cup doesn’t work for me. Instead I’m going to give you an excerpt from Gizmodo’s Danny Allen:

11am: Ugh. Want to go back to bed…Holy mother of Brewtus I need a coffee, maybe a bacon and egg bagel, too. I’m trying Buzz Strong’s Caffeinated Cookies, instead. They’re made with Swiss dark and white chocolate chips, not to mention Brazilian coffee. Let’s see here: 12 cookies in a $US5 box; 4 cookies equal 1 cup of coffee. Pretty heavy on the coffee flavour, but these things actually taste pretty good.
11:30am: Ended up eating 6 cookies, along with a banana smoothie to better line my stomach. Don’t want to get sick, plus milk and cookies is always a win.

12pm: Should not have munched on those extra two cookies. Feeling bloated (my stupid fault), but also more awake. Overall, thumbs up for Buzz Strong’s Caffeinated Cookies, and I’m sure they’re a much better afternoon snack than breakfast. Gotta shower and brush cookie from my teeth.

He goes on to describe various other caffeinated snacks including gum, mints and chocolate. I was just the most interested in the cookie part He says it’s good and it works — and you get to eat FOUR cookies to have one cup of coffee! One cookie has 70 calories, so that’s quite a hefty 280-calorie cup of coffee. No wonder our friend Danny here was bloated after eating 6!

Now. I must pass this on to John Carlson, our cookie dipper who had his cookies with coffee. I wonder if John knows he doesn’t have to do that anymore, and can have it all in one (er, four) cookie?!

John Carlson is my man right now. He wrote a whole article revolving around eating cookies for breakfast and how to do it the right way. I thought I could only do that in college!!!

It’s like, lately, if I don’t have some cookies around the house, I get all depressed and out-of-sorts.

My words exactly. I feel like people don’t get it. (The part I don’t agree with him on, though, is when he says they could be any cookie; that they don’t have to be any specific cookie. I am one of the pickiest eaters I know, and that DEFINITELY carries over to cookies. Perhaps even more importantly so when compared to my veggies.) He goes on to say that he has gotten to the point where his usual breakfast routine consists of cookies and coffee, and eventually doing the sacred dip into the coffee. BUT. He gets all that gross-soggy-cookie-crumbs-at-the-bottom-of-the-mug problem. Well. You can read the article yourself (link above), but I’d like to close this blog entry with another brilliant quote of his:

… if you have to diligently practice anything, it might as well be eating cookies.

Can I get an Amen? AMEN!

What do you think? Has anyone else tried this dunking cookies in coffee thing? What else would be good to dip cookies in? Milk chocolate… nutella…
